First Thoughts:
While apple has had a few iterations of the Smart Cover over the last two years. They have had time to iron out kinks. In this new version the biggest change other then the size is the magnetic strip that latches to the iPad mini. It is now covered by material to prevent any ware or scratches. Also the cover is not broken up in quarters but rather now it's in thirds.
Apple has also chosen not to release a leather version of the Smart Cover as of yet.

Final Thoughts: (after a week of use)
Covering the latch is a nice plus and I believe it works well however time will tell if it holds up as good as the old one. I'm not to happy with the change to the Smart Cover's panels from quarters to thirds. This means you can not fold the in half when flipped to the back which is how I always used the old one.
Disappointments: (small nit-picking)
- Price is to high
- The product is smaller the other smart cases yet the price is still the same.
