Google Plus - First Thoughts & Invites

Will Google Plus be a contender with Facebook? Here is a quick run through of my first thoughts as well as offering some invites to those that wish to try this new beta service.

Google Plus is here. And for the next few days we will be putting it though the ringer look for a full review soon, But, today we’re going to talk about our initial thoughts.

At fist glance, it looks clean. It's not covered in ads, nor does it have a lot of flashy parts, simple...

  • A lot of information was already pre-populated by Google.
  • You can make posts just like Facebook's status updates. People can comment or give you a +1 just like Facebook's like button.
  • Video chatting via hangouts are also a nice added feature.
  • Hurddles is a new way of sharing between multiple people.
  • Sparks give you the ability to find new content based on your interests.

If you use other google services you are sure to like the way it combines them all together - Gmail, Docs, Photos, Calendar, Reader, Youtube etc..

The circles idea is like facebook's groups but more visual. A lot of less techy people have a hard time with Facebook's groups this would should solve that.

Overall, Google Plus is pretty cool. Seeing that it is still in beta and only available though invites as well as everything still subject to change. I do see the need of some fine tune tweaking here and there. I am very curious and want to see how this service evolves. however for the most part Google Plus seems to be reinventing the wheel most of the features are the same as Facebook's with different names. Nothing really ground braking. If hangouts is done correctly it could pull some of the stragglers but as is I think its going to be hard to pull people away from an established service life Facebook. I have only been playing with it for  a few hour, I do plan on doing a more formal review after some more use with friends and family so please check back soon for that.

If you would like an invite to Google Plus beta. leave a comment with your email and I will send you an invite the same night.
